Unlike the book “The Road Less Travelled” I have always been the one to take “The Road Long Travelled”
My latest venture, The Road to Hana, was a picturesque passage, loaded with many secret jewels, including plunging waterfalls, rich bamboo, and over 59 bridges. That’s what Google says. But I thought I’d go there for myself and see first-hand. I relish in road trips where I can sit back, and listen to my favorite music with my feet outside playing in the wind! Since I don’t get to act like this in my every day life in New York City. Here in Hawaii, I am free and happy.
When people think about Hana, they think about Black Sand, so far I’ve been there twice and both times I have never seen it. There are just too many other beautiful things to see on the road that make you forget about it completely.
Though the road is ensconced in beauty, it is known to be quite treacherous to drive on and many people choose to overlook it completely and just take the Plane. The first time I went to Hana, I took the North Shore route, a sick drive with 56 bridges and a spiraling series of never ending turns. This time, my second time, I was excited to add another unknown territory to my checklist. At first glance, the one lane road seemed so gorgeous and smooth. I recall saying to myself “People should go this way more often, what’s the problem?” Well, I soon found out. Shortly thereafter, it became insane! The frequent hills and constant up and down and zigzagging and hairpin turns, made it near impossible to see who was coming our way. I felt like I was on a motorcycle as the car sculpted the turns from side to side. Constant beeping kept cars from falling down a never-ending cliff. And through it all, people wave hello and say thank you. We thought it would be funny to make faces at people as we passed, so sometimes we’d stick out our tongue and wag ears, why so serious? Later on, two beautiful horses on the side of the road so we decided to stop and say hello. As you can see after he finished eating all of my organic fruits, he sniffed his nose to my heart…Well, I will only keep my wild heart open to you because of your awesome abs.
